The Back Door

My thoughts on what I’ll call my blog if there is another word that means “senseless words dumped in cyberspace.”

I decided a blog would be a great way to keep in touch with my site visitors and help you get to know me a bit better. Now what to call it, blog just seems like a useless term meaning “where my thoughts are dumped for the whole world to see,” but I want my blog to be more than that.

I want my blog to be a place to share with you the experience of a new designer working my way from dream to reality. I want to share with you the exciting things happening at my studio, and the not so exciting drudgery of ripping seams just like you. I want to receive feedback from my visitors (future friends) about the site and my current projects. Could blog mean “adventures making a career playing with colorful fabric and creating confetti out of perfectly good thread?”

So how do I say all of that in a catchy short phrase conveying meaning and feeling? What’s more, I also have a strange way of writing. I call it my 24/7 psychoanalyst, its my journal. Not just any journal, I keep my journal on m515, friends know her as my Palm Pilot that has been by my side now for five years. I keep everything on her. From recipes in magazines read while stuck in waiting rooms to plans for the quilt retreat I hosted in March. My two favorite feature of m515 is Graffiti and backlight. Graffiti allows me to record my notes electronically without typing, not one of my talents. Backlight allows me to write at night without waking Dave. So maybe blog is a good word for “black and white lights forming senseless words written during periods of insomnia.”

Last I want my blog to be another creative outlet. My dream of quilting full-time is accompanied by my dream of writing full-time. Yet I don’t know how I will ever fit this all in around my current full-time job of being a wife, mother (grandmother too) and homemaker. Those are my priorities in order as I live them. So blog might mean “creative outlet for a woman seeking to share her greatest joys in life.”

Whatever blog means, I haven’t looked it up yet, I hope you will visit me here often. Like the saying “Back door friends are best,” blog friends will get a peek into my life unlike those who only click on my Gallery.

I guess that is why I’ll call my blog “The Back Door” since it is the invitation to come in and visit for a while.
