The finishing touch has just been added to my studio and I feel like a queen. My Bernina, Aurora 440 QE was delivered and I need to rejoice.
The past two months I have been spending every free moment creating a true quilting studio. The idea came to me as I removed my quilting yet again from the dining room table. Each time I have done so before I would lament, “If I only had a place where I did not need to put it all away.” I yearned for a true studio where it all “belonged.”
For the past 15 years we have created a “family room” in each townhouse, house or apartment we have lived in. Our latest abode was no exception. The third bedroom had been furnished and arranged as a home office / TV room where we gathered most evenings to unwind.
I decided to speak to my family about the prospect. What if we moved the TV into the living room? Then I could convert the office into my studio. You could imagine my gratitude when my daughter not only agreed; she offered to give up her room and move into the smaller office and give me the largest room in the house!
I now have a true quilting studio. Working zones have been divided to provide space for each step in the design process. I have my computer desk for designing with EQ. The cutting table is the perfect height for long hours with the mat, ruler and rotary cutter who all hang neatly on the wall at hand. The design wall is perfect for getting the layout just right. All of my tools are in a home of their own; clear, labeled boxes. Shelves of books, magazines and more clear boxes hold fabric already in bits and pieces. The ironing board can stay at the ready without being in the way. My Ufos have a home and the stash is put away. Miss Gracie my Z44 pro is at the ready. Last but not least Genie my QE is in her own table and awaiting my every command.
What a treasure! Not the studio, but the daughter whose generosity made it all possible!
